Default Gold, Purple and White

OK What exactly is the difference? Gold is superior to Purple etc but what is the actual effect on damage for a weapon? Not taking into account ebon hafts etc just purely based on the colour?

Also, is there anything you can do with purple salvage items that when identified show no bonus? e.g. Charr Robes?

Cheers!

White items are normal items. They have no inherent extra abilities.

Blue items are magic items. They have some added abilities most of the time and can have parts (hafts, wraps, etc.) that they come with and can be salvaged.

Purple items are uncommon items. They can either be just higher damage than the "standard" item or they could have inherent effects like blue items. Upgrades can be salvaged off some of these.

Gold items are rare items. They tend to have the best inherent modifiers and can even have modifiers placed on them that aren't related to upgrades. This allows you to have more added effects when you upgrade the weapon.

Hope this helps!

Tavenlen's answer is true on average. But it's quite common to get lousy golds and purples. I've gotten plenty of golds and purples with no mods whatsoever that are far inferior to whites I still own.

It's just a matter of probability: gold gives you the highest chances of good stats, mods, and components, and blue gives you the least. White differs in that it's the only color that never drops with mods or components. But its inherent stats might very well be at max.

Never pay a lot for an item just because it is gold or purple. I see people get scammed by this all the time. FYI, I have a couple blue items I still use and will probably never find a gold or purple to beat them. Pay attention to the stats, mods, and components, and nothing else .

I personally have noticed that my gold weapons have a lower Req. (8 marksmanship) then my purple (11 marksmanship), blue or white ones. They also usually have very god non upgrade mods on all of them

This is true, but I was just going for the "general" explanation.

I've actually found a blue that was better than several golds I have found. It's all in the cards.
